I read "The Invisible Thing", a short story in this collection, years ago, enjoyed it, and became interested in Carnacki. After re-reading "The Invisible Thing" and reading the other 8 short stories in this collection, I have to say that I have an overall feeling of disappointment.
While "The Invisible Thing" is very tightly written, the stories in general tend to be rather formulaic, sharing a common set up and on a couple of occasions a very common solution. In some cases. the conclusions were not written as tightly as I would have preferred, leaving the reader with "I don't know" as an explanation to an occurrence.
I still enjoyed the ambiance, the setting in general. I just felt these could have been written so much better!
